The Peer Support Program provides a safe and positive avenue by which Year 10 students can support year 7 students in their transition into the 7 – 10 middle school of the Georges River College Hurstville Boys’ Campus.
The Program:All year 9 students, regardless of their interest in becoming leaders, are given the opportunity to learn valuable leadership, communication, decision making socialising skill by undertaking the Peers Support training. Once students have successfully completed their training, they can volunteer to become Year 10 peer Support Leaders.
The Peer Support course is then implemented over the course of three full days early in terms 1 and two with several follow up sessions in terms three and four. The days are a mixture of year 10 student lead sessions which incorporate role playing, parachute and mine field games and performances viewings to stimulate discussion on topics such as: team work and cooperation, conflict resolution, positive decision making and the acceptance of peoples’ differences.
