Catering Team Triumph
Friday, 18 November 2011, writes:

The GRC Oatley Catering Team set a new standard for hospitality by hosting the Term 4 Gifted & Talented Secondary Teachers Association Conference in the Gallery on Nov 11.  The Catering Team was set the challenge of developing a new menu, planning the venue, and organising the service for a group of teachers from across the state.  Their professionalism and dedication was clearly on display, with their talents - and delicious food - well appreciated by all.  Kudos to Ms Danika Kalan and Ms Angelika Splittgerber for their work with the team, and many thanks to the dedicated students who really represent the many talents of GRC Oatley's fine students.  Please click on the photos below to view the photo gallery.

GRC Oatley through to State Rugby Leage Quarter Finals

GRC Oatley through to State Rugby League Quarter Finals!

George River College Oatley - 13
Great Lakes College Forster - 6

GRC Oatley's Rugby League team, coached by Mr Armstrong and Mr Butler, were recently successful in their Round of 16 match, their victory securing a place in the NSW State Quarter Finals.  Our boys faced a stern examination from the boys of Great Lakes College, Forster in the final 16 match at Evatt Park.  This was a bruising and low scoring encounter, dominated by bone jarring defence. We entered half time trailing 6-0, but the mood in the camp was positive as always. The now trademark comeback was the theme of Coach Armstrong’s address and the plan was put into action in a tense second half.  Danny “Mr Fix it” Lewis showed his versatility by filling the hole left at half back due to the injury of Jack Walsh. He showed intelligence and guile to finally breach the Forster try line and level at 6-6.

From this point, waves of attack were directed at the tiring defence. They could not contain the marauding Tapa “Fui Fui” Paulo who climbed from his sick bed and charged through the line, setting up the winning try for the plucky rake, Kieran Mellis.  Playmaker Rhyce Scott iced the cake with a last minute field goal to bring the scores to 13-6, and the boys were jubilant, already daring to dream of a final eight victory over Mullumbimby.

Well done boys. As always you played with pride and good sportsmanship. Special mention also to the determination of the boys who travelled from Forster.  Best on ground included Joe Tataha, Tekorona Tekorona, Lionel Koro and Danny Lewis.
