SEAL

What is SEAL?

SEAL stands for Selective Extension – Accelerated Learning.

It is a program which has been designed to encourage high achievement, originality, problem-solving, higher order thinking skills and creativity.

Why are we running the SEAL program?

  • To optimise development of the potential of gifted and talented students.
  • To develop a flexible approach to the education of students of all abilities.
  • To provide a range of learning experiences to develop a talent or talents.

By modifying the curriculum we are providing opportunities that are uniquely appropriate for each student. All students benefit from enrichment and all students should benefit from a classroom which offers opportunities and challenge.

When will SEAL run?

The SEAL program consists of a two hour block of time each 2 week cycle and is integrated into the year 7 timetable.

Who will be participating in the SEAL program?

7 Rainier and 7 Matterhorn have been split into three smaller classes during the SEAL program. Mrs Alexander, Mrs Jamieson and Mr Moore will be teaching SEAL this year.

How will the SEAL program work?

Small teams of students’ complete set rich tasks by planning, researching, evaluating and creating a solution to a design problem. Students gain skills and knowledge whilst meeting high expectations. Every student gains communication, teamwork, leadership, and organising skills. By developing independence, responsibility and initiative each student becomes more motivated to achieve in other curriculum areas where teachers have differentiated the curriculum.
